Overview

This consultation sets out proposals and rationale for amendments to the governing legislative framework (The Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001) of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). This governing legislation sets out the NMC's roles, functions and processes. The NMC is the UK regulator for nursing and midwifery.

When considering the questions in this consultation please refer to the full consultation document, which explains in detail the proposals and rationale for amendments.

In parallel, the NMC is consulting on new provisions to the Fitness-to-Practise Rules and Registration Rules that will draw their legal basis from the amendments proposed in this consultation. 

What Happens Next

When the consultation closes all of the responses will be carefully considered and a full consultation report will be available when the Order is laid in Parliament.
